Equipment

The X-ray Scattering Facility provides access to the following equipment:

Proto AXRD High-Throughput
Laboratory Powder Diffractometer (LPD-HT)

Description:
The Proto AXRD LPD-HT is a transmission powder X-ray diffractometer equipped with a copper microfocus X-ray tube, 2D Montel focusing optics, large Eiger2 R 1M area detector and a cryogen free open-flow cooler. Combination of X-ray microfocus and large area detector results in unprecedented scanning rate (47° 2Theta scan in just 3 minutes) at no compromise to intensity or angular resolution (min. FWHM = 0.075°, min. 2Theta < 1.0°). The instrument works in a well plate and capillary configurations. The well plate stage allows automated analysis of up to 96 samples using only 2-3 mg of crystalline powder. While well plate configuration is ideal for rapid data acquisition (150 samples in 8 hours), capillary configuration enables data acquisition of samples (including air sensitive) at different temperatures (80-400K) and gas pressure (up to 30 bar) for in-depth crystallographic analysis including structure determination.

Proto AXRD Benchtop Powder Diffractometer

Description
The Proto AXRD Benchtop is a powder diffractometer in Bragg-Brentano configuration. The instrument is equipped with a 600W sealed X-ray tube (Cu anode), silicon strip Mythen2 R 1D detector and an indexable sample spinner. Usage of the 1D detector results in shorter acquisition times compared to point 0D detectors. The incident beam size is easily adjusted with a set of divergence slits to achieve desired intensity/resolution compromise. Decoupled motors of the sample stage and the detector allow for collection of conventional theta-2Theta scans, glancing incidence scans (for thin films), and rocking curves. The sample spinner can be easily swapped with Anton Paar BTS 500 heating chamber (up to 500°C). The instrument requires about 30-50 mg of powder for data acquisition.

Bruker D8 VENTURE
Single Crystal X-ray Diffractometer (SC-XRD)

Description
The Bruker D8 VENTURE SC-XRD is a state-of-the-art single crystal diffraction platform for structure determination of small molecules and proteins. The instrument is equipped with a four-circle kappa goniometer, two microfocus X-ray sources (Mo, Cu), PHOTON III detector and Oxford Cryosystems open-flow cooler (80-400K). The combination of bright dual x-ray source and a large detector results in unprecedented collection times (as short as 30 minutes for the collection of the triclinic crystal class), accurate determination of an absolute configuration and superb quality of the data.
